Die 7. U-Flottille wurde am 01.01.1940 als Frontflottille, mit der Feldpostnummer M-14 971, geründet. Bis Mai 1941 dienten beide Stützpunkte, Kiel sowie St. Nazaire als Basis. Erst im Juni 1941 wurde die Frontflottille komplett nach St. Nazaire verlegt. Sie wurde bei Kriegsende, am 08.05.1945 aufgelöst.
