Die 1. U-Flottille wurde am 27.09.1935 unter dem Namen U-Flottille WEDDIGEN aufgestellt. Nach dem 31.12.1939 wurden die bestehenden Flottillen zusammengelegt. Die U-Flottille WEDDIGEN, die U-Flottille LOHS und die U-Flottille EMSMANN wurden zur 1. U-Flottille vereinigt. So entstand am 01.01.1940 die 1. U-Flottille mit Sitz in Kiel und der Felspostnummer M-06 153. Die Frontflottille verlegte im Juni 1941 nach Brest in Frankreich, wo sie im September 1944 aufgelöst wurde.
